Sam Pointon
Experience
Sam is Founder and Head Coach of OnPoint Coaching, which he now runs full-time, delivering high-quality rugby coaching to individuals and groups at all levels. Alongside this, Sam coaches the 1st XV at Birmingham Moseley RFC, competing in National League One, and leads the club's pathway programme, developing young talent and bridging the gap from junior rugby to the semi-professional game. Additionally, Sam is coaching at Warwick School and Coventry College (Leicester Tigers ACE College).
Sam was formerly Head Rugby Coach for the 1st XV at Rugby School, one of the UK's most prestigious co-educational boarding schools, also serving as Deputy Housemaster, Sports Performance Analyst, and Master in Charge of Athletics. Over eleven seasons he guided the 1st XV to an unbeaten season, a Champions Trophy final, overseas tours to South Africa, Australia and Japan, and three Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s finals, winning one. More than 20 players he has coached have gone on to earn junior or senior international honours. Sam started coaching at Loughborough University while studying for his Sports Technology BSc and Masters in Sports Coaching, working across the Men's and Women's 7s squads and the Men's 3rd XV. He has since coached in developmental environments including the U15 age group for Midlands Central and regularly for UR7s, and holds the RFU Advanced Coach Award. As a player, Sam earned over 180 caps in National League One for Loughborough Students and Birmingham Moseley, where he was long-standing Club Captain. He holds international honours for England Students and has captained Great Britain Students 7s to gold and silver medals at World Championship level.
